Dear Friend,
Thank you so much for your support and generosity in 2006. Due to your efforts, many lives were saved!
RWF began 2006 by continuing our Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. We distributed
$650,000 in aid for emergency supplies, medical care and temporary shelter. We also provided
aid for earthquake survivors in Pakistan.
In the spring, RWF launched a landmine
removal campaign to clear minefields in
Cambodia. This project clears land in the
Kamrieng, Battambang area.
This summer, RWF started funding an HIV/
AIDS education program to help save the
next generation of South Africans. RWF is
supporting the work of young peer educators by
providing each with a monthly stipend of
$200. The stipend pays for ongoing training,
supplies, a small salary and a bicycle. After
receiving intensive training, peer educators
work in their home communities to educate
other young people.
In August, RWF embarked on its third annual relief mission to
Guatemala. Fifteen volunteers, most of them from the LGBT commu-
nity, delivered 1,650 pounds of medical and school supplies
(valued at $250,000) and $11,000 in cash grants to a medical
clinic, an orphanage, a water project, two schools, and a community
center that helps people with HIV/AIDS. RWF also distributed hun-
dreds of stuffed animals to children along the way.
LGBT AND FRIENDS COMMUNITY RESPONDING TO WORLD NEED
RWF is ending the year by teaming up with San Francisco
Mayor Gavin Newsom to create the "Tree of Hope" in
San Francisco's City Hall. This unique project invites people
to decorate a holiday tree covered with origami cranes that are in-
scribed with their wishes for
the world. The campaign fo-
cuses on drawing attention to
the plight of children in need.
Contributors include Sena-
tor Barack Obama, Frances
Moore Lappe,
Danielle Steel and hundreds
of schoolchildren.
RWF's Efficiency
Of every $1 RWF received (income and donated supplies) in 2005,
98.5 cents went to programs that serve those most in need. Ad-
ministrative and fund-raising costs accounted for only 1.5
cents. Visit rainbowfund.org to see our annual report.
Please help us to build on all that we accomplished this year. We
can do even more in 2007. Your contributions make a huge
difference in the lives of so many and help demonstrate our community's commitment to im-
proving the lives of people around the globe.
Become a monthly donor - one of the most
effective ways you can help. Your gift of $25, $50,
$100- or any amount- can mean the difference
between life and death to a child in need.
Please visit rainbowfund.org to learn more
about our work, to set up a monthly giving plan, to
donate by credit card, or to sign up for our Rain-
bow Humanitarianism online newsletter.
Warmest regards and wishes for peace in 2007,
